About a dozen officer bearers of the Indian Hockey Federation had a rare opportunity to interact with their Federation president, KPS Gill on Wednesday in New Delhi.

Specially convened to discuss the Chile fiasco, the members mostly concentrated on forming many sub-committees – and it was nothing unexpected as it will give most of them a role there – which will have powers delegated. There was near unanimity these committees will be formed within a week – as if they were never formed in the past.

On two issues that haunt India at present, that is, continuance of flop-and-bluff Joaquim Carvalho and bringing Charlesworth in his place, KPS Gill did not open his mind much. On Charlesworth he has bluntly told them that the last word on the issue is not yet said and it won’t be appropriate for him to comment on this now as ‘the contract is not signed, and he is yet to finalize talks with Charlesworth and the Sports Ministry’.

Accordingly to a member attended the meeting, Gill gave an impression that Carvalho will continue as ‘there is not much time left for Australia tour’. ‘Gill perhaps feels he is protected if Carvalho is protected’, said the same source.”If Carvalho goes for one tour, Gill’s ego will also be largely satisfied, and he would have led the world believe who calls the shots in Indian hockey. Once his ego is over, continuing with Carvalho is not a big matter’, said the source matter of factly.

It is further gathered that some group vehemently wanted Carvalho to be removed straight away and another group wanted both Jothikumaran and Carvalho are liabilities for the Indian Hockey. But they were not the contentious issues there. Hardly anyone talked about IHF’s accountability and Gill’s resignation.

All office bearers raised the issue of not conducting the National Championship, need for more astro trufs etc. Gill, according to another sources, just listened and requested all such matters should be discussed in house and should not be made public.

The office bearers faithfully obliged that as everybody’s phone no went out of reach for the rest of the day. S2h was fortunate to get call from two of the members who attended the meeting.. One more late in the night.
