Defeating Canada India comes alive in Ipoh (5/11/2008)
Sometimes come what may certain records refuse to fade. It so happened today at Ipoh in the 12th Sultan Azlan Shah coompetition.

India had never lost to Canada in Azlan Shah, and the pure record was saved today much against our hopes

Even as India was wasting its chances like a millionaire and trailed by a goal till in 44th minutes, no hopes of Indian revival was visible, but an young lad by name Diwakarram had other ideas.

He scored a brace of goals in the 44th and 51st minutes and then Mumbai's Shivender Singh came up with a goal to take away the match from the hands of Canada. Earlier in the first half, Canada's Sukhwinder Singh sent in a powerful cross that gave the Canadians their first penalty corner. They did not waste it. Stout defender Wayne Fernandes had no difficulty to sent the ball in through a powerful push.

India had met Canada thrice in the past and the record is two wins and a draw in its favour.
