Khalsa College wins Shyam Lal Hockey Crown (2/4/2019)

Shyam Lal Memorial Invitational Hockey tournament is the much awaited annual event in the capital city of Delhi, where competitions for college boys and girls are practically nil. The inter-college tournament started eight years ago is popular among the students in Delhi being held for both men's and women's college teams.

The eight edition of the competition was recently held this week.

Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College upset the host and the defending champion Shyam Lal College to win 8th Padma shri Shyam Lal memorial invitational Hockey tournament today.


On Monday in the Men’s section Final Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College defeated Shyam Lal College 5-1 in the one sided encounter. At half time Khalsa college was leading 2-1. Sachin and Mohit struck a brace each while Manish added the remainder for the winning team

Lalit was lone scorer for Shyam lal College.

Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal, Shyam Lal College and Sushil Rajput, Chairman, Noida Physical Education College, gave away the tropies to the Winners and Runner-up teams, respectively.

Chief Guest Meghna Yadav (IPS), DCP of Shahdara, gave her blessings to the players before the start of the match.

In the semi-finals these two teams played wonderfully. In a all home contest, Shyam Lal college (Morning) showed no mercy to beat Shaym Lal College (Evening) 9-2 in the irst Semifinal. Half Time score was 5-1 in favor of the winners. Pankaj (3 Goals), Ashish (2 Goals) and Suraj, Praveen Munda, Nitish scored a goal apiece. Shaym Lal College (Evening) scored one goal each through Jatin and Kamil in first and 4th Quarter. In the second Semi final Sri Gru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College beat Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports science 2-1. Akash and Mohit scored for winner while Basant scored for the losing side. Khalsa college was leading 2-0 at the half time.

Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College swept away most of the individual Awards.

Best Defender : Parvesh (Khalsa College)
Best Half Back : Ankit (Khalsa College)
Best Forward : Sachin (Khalsa College)
Best Scorer : Pankaj (Shyam Lal College)

Women section Awardees
Best Goal Keeper : Sheetal (Delhi University Alumnus)
Best Defender : Kanchan (Jesus &marry College)
Best Half Back : Priyanka (Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College)
Best Forward : Amita (Jesus &marry College)
Best Scorer : Manisha (Delhi University Alumnus ).
