K. Arumugam, 20.06.1958, New Delhi

New Delhi based freelance journalist and hockey lover K. Arumugam is the founder editor & Proprietor
A science graduate from the Presidency College (Chennai) and a post-graduate from prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) in Geology and Hydrology, Arumugam has been professionally a water expert. He has taken volunteer retirement from a lucrative government job and is devoting full time for hockey.
Arumugam has been watching hockey for over two decades and has painstakingly collected hockey statistics, images and information from bits and scratches. As a result, he is in possession of rare records, literature and images. He has professionally covered hockey for various magazines and newspapers, besides this site. He covered many prestigious events such as World Cups and Champions Trophies.
Stick2hockey.com runs mostly out of his own resources.
He specializes `history’ and has done extensive research on the history of Indian hockey. Not surprisingly his essay on Dhyan Chand, taken from one of his books, is included in the XI standard English text book (CBSE syllabus). He analyses contemporary hockey with statistical strength and historical sense. His analysis of events, views on men and matters are widely followed and appreciated. His views are also telecast by various channels.
Though about 110 countries play hockey, there is no annual chronicle for the benefit of posterity. Arumugam’s brainchild, the Hockey Year Book, is only one of its kind in the world at present. Though a group of London-based journalists produced what was then known as Balsam Hockey Year book in the early 90s, it did not survive beyond a couple of years. Arumugam’s Hockey Year Books are 14 years old, 7 bi-annuals have already hit the stands.
The Journal of International Society of Olympic Historians highlights his books. International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge has been authenticating his hockey year books by writing appreciative forewords.
Arumugam contributed columns, articles and statistics for various magazines, newspapers and websites including Alive, Sahara Monthly, Aside, India Today, Sportstar, Deccan Chronicle, Hindustan Times, Pioneer, Indian Express, Dinamalar, The Hindu, The Hitavada, Lokmat Times, as Media Officer for an women’s tournament, fihockey.com, Indya.com, fieldhockey.com, besides his own stick2hockey.com
