Afro Asian Games is a good concept. The Games aims at amalgamating the
spirit of two continents – Asia and Africa – through sports.
Expectedly, lot of enthusiasm marks the unfolding of a new genre of global competition.
Being the Indian concept, the Government of India and its various arms
are in full swing to make it a success.
The mega event, for which the provincial government of Andhra Pradesh
is leaving no stone unturned, is hardly a fortnight away, but the clear
scenario with regards to participating hockey teams are not clear.
While the men’s section seemed to have fell on expected lines with the
confirmation of all eight teams, the women’s situation is fluid.
China has cried off. Then Japan withdrew. However, Kazakhstan has
agreed to fill up the vacuum. South Korea will be sending its second team though
for men’s the same team that played the Asia Cup in September has
confirmed.
However, instead of applying its energy and mind on the burning issue
that has the potential of spoiling the Afro-Asian Games show, the Indian
Women Hockey Federation, is busy in the election. Yes, it will be having its
election in Sohan, Himachal Pradesh.
