Air India the star-studded outfit registered their 8th straight win in the prestigious MHA Super Division League Hockey Tournament resumed today at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate.
Air India having recent and past Internationals, world cuppers and Olympians in their ranks of much led from the front by icon Dhanraj Pillay put it across youthful and gritty R.C.F by 4-1 at lemon break the airmen were up by a brace ( 2-0)
Air India won the tie though it was RCF who stole the lime light especially their young keeper Ankit Gulia who dazzled under the bar along with defence who thwarted the airmen’s star studded strikers brilliantly every now and then. The airmen’s had to wait for 20 minutes to score their first goal V.S.Vinay converted a penalty corner indire3ctly ( 1-0 ) RCF too were not far behind as they missed dual chances back to back thereafter 5 minutes later the airens doubled the lead through a stroke conversion by Ajmer Singh ( 2-0 ) After resumption RCFR intensified their raids on airmen’s citadel.
RCF centre half Boon D’Souza relayed some superb passes upfront for his strikers but his efforts went in vain, however the frustrated airmens not finding the rhythm and penetration up front added the 3rd goal against the run of play V.S.Vinay his 2nd goal fired from a acute angle ( 51st minutes ) 5 minutes later Dhanraj Pillay converted a indirect penalty corner for the 4th goal.
RCF displaying brilliant field hockey against their much fancied opponents pulled a goal back in the 69th minutes ie. dying minutes of play time. B.K.Muthanna converted indirect p.c ( 1-4 ) In all 16 penalty corners were earned by either sides Air India’s 11 p.c and RCf’s 5 p.c . The Airmens converted 2 p.c from 11 p.c while RCF ever able to convert 1 p.c out of 5. Airmen garned 25 points from 8 wins (all win record )
