This Sunday, I thought no serious hockey.
But, writing is a disease with me, so I have to do something today also.
But I was sure in my mind the stuff should be different.
Then I got the idea.
Last fortnight I wrote how the Indian sports fraternity as a whole missed the Centenary of Roop Singh.
I also a missed an anniversary – of a different kind. This I want share with you all.
Five years ago on 28th September, an official of the past IHF filed a case against me.
I am not going to dwell nitty gritty of the case, but I really wonder how I missed it.
The case was of course filed against me, also against George Brink, a freelancer like me who conceived and runs hockey’s most visited website: www.fieldhockey.com
This was filed by one Sharma, who used to shadow former IHF President KPS Gill.
This was a criminal defamation case, I was demanded a defamation amount of – hold your breadth – Rs.50 lac. Also, I was demanded Rs. 50,000 for issuing the notice.
One of the ten reasons, I mentioned in the story, was, ‘Personal Fiefdom’. Here, I wondered how this Sharma was nominated as a Member of Communication Committee of the FIH.Now I shudder to think. Luckily I have not written “One Hundred Reasons why KPG Gill should Resign”. Though I knew well there were more than one hundred reasons why should resign
I was demanded Rs.50 lac for mere ten reasons
How much they would have demanded had it been One Hundred Reasons?
You take out the calculator and work out.
For me, today is Sunday.
The anniversary I missed was, well deserved
