This Month Hero is a heroine. And that is, fittingly, Rani — which in many Indian languages means Queen. The four lettered girl, a ninth standard student, surprised a host of selectors at Lucknow recently, where the trails for selecting Indian women team for the crucial Olympic Qualifier took place. At one stage the choice had narrowed between the experienced Adline Kerketta and the colt Rani. But the 14-year old got the unanimous nod. Those who watched her opine she is extremely talented forward, and has an eye for opportunism. She is yet to play for any age category tournament, but easily made it to the senior grade. Wish her best of luck. Better wait and watch another star emanating from the Shahbad stable.
