Women’s National starts with one-sided affairs

Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 20 April 2015: The 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) Division B commenced today in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State – Sports, Youth Welfare & Forest, Shri Fareed Mahfooz Kidwai, at a glittering ceremony. The opening day of the championship today, saw four back-to-back clashes between eight teams aiming to start their run on a winning note.


The inaugural day witnessed a thrilling match where Chhattisgarh Hockey defeated Hockey Uttarakhand 9-2. The second match of Pool A observed Steel Plant Sports Board registering their first win against Hockey Gujarat 3-1. In the third match of Pool C Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu overcame Hockey Andhra Pradesh 6-1. Hockey Bihar opened their account on a winning note by defeating Hockey Vidarbha 8-0.


The first match on the opening day of the tournament witnessed Chhattisgarh Hockey trouncing Hockey Uttarakhand 9-2 and registering their first win of the Championship. The player who got everyone’s attention was Pooja Yadav whose 3 goals helped take her team to a strong win. Hockey Uttarakhand got the jolt as early as the 7th minute when two consecutive goals by the opponents resulted in them trailing the game 0-2. This gave Chhattisgarh Hockey the edge as they continued their dominance. They added their third goal in the 14th minute as Renuka Rajput deflected the ball into the nets for a field goal. Chhattisgarh Hockey continued raining goals as they added to the tally of goals in the 21st, 29th, 32nd and 35th minute leaving Hockey Uttarakhand trailing the game 7-0 at the end of first half. The second half saw Hockey Uttarakhand start the session, as they scored their first goal in the 38th minute when Shubham slammed the ball into the nets leaving no opportunity for the goalkeeper to react. This did not dent the spirits of Chhattisgarh Hockey as they continued from where they left in the first half. Pooja Yadav scored through a field effort which marked her second goal and the team’s eighth. Trailing the game 1-8, Hockey Uttarakhand scored their second goal in the 56th minute when the team were awarded with a penalty stroke and which was successfully converted by Monika Rawat. But goals started coming in late for Hockey Uttarakhand and they lost the match 9-2.
The second match between Steel Plant Sports Board and Hockey Gujarat was an exciting clash as each team looked for opening the Championship with a win. While Hockey Gujarat were good at their defence and attack, but Steel Plant Sports Board proved to be a better team as they managed to sneak in three goals and kept the opponents at bay, to win the match 3-1. While most of the first half was a dry run, it was in the 26th minute when Meena Chakre entered the D and a clean pass to her was slammed into the nets giving Steel Plant Sports Board their opening goal. With no further goals scored Steel Plant Sports Board was leading the game 1-0. The second half and Steel Plant Sports Board scored their second goal when Meena Chakre through a field effort took the scoreboard to 2-0. Trailing by two goals Hockey Gujarat increased their tempo of attack and they struck success in the 51st minute when Parmeshwari Shah did no mistake in deflecting a pass into the nets and scoring the first goal for her team. But this did not put a stop to Steel Plant Sports Board intention of winning and they went on to add their winning goal in the 55th minute as Shashi Kala who stood tall to score. Steel Plant Sports Board won the game 3-1.


The match between Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu and Hockey Andhra Pradesh was a one sided affair as the former dominated and winning the game 6-1. The winning team struck in the 17th minute when R Jayalakshmi through a field effort scored the opening goal of the match. M Keerthana doubled the lead for Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu when she beat the defence of the opponents to add the second goal to the tally. Right before going into the second half, Hockey Andhra Pradesh as they bounced back to score their first goal coming from the stick of Poojitha B taking the half time scores to 2-1 in favour of Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu. The goal right before the end of first half did not put Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu into any kind of pressure as right into the second half their third goal was added to the tally by K. Vijaya Lakshmi. With a lead of 3-1, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu scored three more goals coming in the 49th, 57th and 59th minute and winning the match 6-1.


The last match of the opening day of the championship saw Hockey Bihar starting their campaign on a winning note by defeating Hockey Vidarbha 8-0. While Hockey Bihar dominated the whole match, Hockey Vidarbha failed to impress with their skills as they were unable to score any goals in the entire match. Hockey Bihar took the initial lead through Shilwanti Minjur who struck in the 9th minute from a penalty corner while Dolly Kumari scored a field goal in the 16th minute to make it 2-0. Hockey Bihar was in no mood to give away any scoring opportunities to Hockey Vidarbha and it was Anila Sosan Beck who contributed two field goals to her team in the 28th and 45th minute for Hockey Bihar. Hockey Bihar kept its scoring momentum and through Shilwanti Minjur’s remarkable efforts, added two more goals to its tally in the 35th and 43rd minute. Hockey Bihar intensified their attacks and was leading with a score of 6-0. They were rightly benefitted when Nagma Khatoon scored in the 47th minute followed by Dolly Kumari who proved to be too strong for Hockey Bihar as she struck the eighth goal for her team in the 50th minute. With Hockey Vidarbha unable to open their account, all their efforts went in vain as Hockey Bihar celebrated its first victory by routing Hockey Vidarbha 8-0.

Sr Women’s National: Top teams register easy wins


Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 22 April 2015: The teams won full appreciation on the third day of the ongoing 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’B’’ Division today.


Hockey Patiala gave a wonderful start to the day as it thumped Hockey Gujarat 10-1 which was followed by a close contested match between Steel Plant Sports Board and Chhattisgarh Hockey where the latter lost to the former 1-2. Continuing the day with one more win it was Hockey Madhya Pradesh who blanked Tripura Hockey 17-0. In the third match Hockey Rajasthan beat Bengal Hockey Association subsequently and the last match saw Association of Indian Universities slamming 11 goals on Hockey Puduchery to win 11-0.


Hockey Patiala had a field day against Hockey Gujarat as they rained goals in the entire game and registering a convincing win. It was Sapna’s four goals helped the team take win with a huge goal margin. It was Captainn Kulwinder Kaur who started the day’s proceedings when her field effort in the 7th minute bore results. Within two minutes Sapna was seen in action as a brilliant field goal from her doubled the lead for Hockey Patiala. Kulwinder Kaur went one up as she scored the team’s third goal in the 18th minute. Before the end of first half, Hockey Patiala added two more goals to the tally and ended the session with 5-0 on the scoreboard. Right into the second half Hockey Patiala continued from where they left in the first half. 36th minute registered the 6th goal for Hockey Patiala and it was Sapna again on the job. While Hockey Patiala was playing the game in the D of the Hockey Gujarat, the latter managed to score their sole goal of the game in the 53rd minute when Captain Champa Rathwa took it on herself to do some damage control. But with eth form that Hockey Patiala was playing it got difficult for Hockey Gujarat to stop the rampage as the former went onto win 10-1.


In another match between Steel Plant Sports Board and Hockey Chhattisgarh was an exciting clash as both teams were seen trying to create opportunities and score but the defence stood tall and strong. Steel Plant Sports Board proved took the edge in the game as they won 2-1. The game started Steel Plant Sports Board taking the initial lead in the 6th minute leaving the opponents stunned. This was followed by them doubling their score in the 29th minute and ended half time at 2-0 lead. Undeterred by the scorecard, Hockey Chhattisgarh tried making a comeback when Babita Lhilhare scored a brilliant field goal. the rest of the session Hockey Chhattisgarh tried equalizing but failed resulting in Steel Plant Sports Board taking the game 2-1.


The match between Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Tripura Hockey was a spectacular show as the game yielded 11 goals by Hockey Madhya Pradesh while also ensuring they did not concede a single goal to the opponent. The goal score was boosted by Rakhi Prajapati’s 5 individual goals followed by Jyoti Pal’s 4 and Nutan Topno’s 3. The match started with two consecutive goals in the 3rd and 4th minute by Jyoti Pal started the goal scoring spree for Hockey Madhya Pradesh. This was followed by the team adding 7 goals before the first half ended and the score card read 9-0 in favour of Hockey Madhya Pradesh. The second session saw a similar play by Hockey Madhya Pradesh as they added eight more goals coming at regular intervals as the convincingly beat Tripura Hockey 17-0.


In a one-sided match between Hockey Rajasthan and Bengal Hockey Association it was the former which stamped its victory 3-0. Hockey Rajasthan kept the opponents at bay in the entire game not allowing them to cash in on any single opportunity. The game was high on speed and attack as Hockey Rajasthan looking for the initial break-through broke the defence chain of Bengal Hockey Association to score their first goal in the 11th minute. Proving to be the sole goal scored in the first half Hockey Rajasthan was leading the game 1-0. Right into the second half Hockey Rajasthan doubled the count in the 35th minute as Sita deflected the ball into the nets. Trailing the game Bengal Hockey Association tried making a comeback by increasing the tempo of attack but failed to convert. Hockey Rajasthan were third time lucky in the 40th minute as yet again Bengal Hockey Association’s defence gave-in to the pressure of the attack of the opponent resulting in them scoring their third goal and which proved to be the winning goal.
The last match of the day saw Association of Indian Universities slamming 11 goals on Hockey Puduchery who on the other hand was unable to score in the entire game and went on to lose 0-11. The intent of the team was clear as in the very 1st minute when Shahsibala scored through a field effort. This was followed by the lead getting doubled in the 9th minute when the penalty corner was hit hard past the goal keeper by Ramandeep Kaur. As Hockey Puduchery was trying to recover from the early jolts, Association of Indian Universities added the third goal in the 14th minute when Jaspreet Kaur made no mistake in converting a clean pass in the D. With 3-1 lead already, Association of Indian Universities added five more goals before the end of first half and were leading the game 8-0. The second half unveiled the same plot for Association of Indian Universities as they continued their rampage on the field by adding regular goals to the tally. 41st minute and goal no. 9 was scored by Jaspreet Kaur. Before the game ended the team scored two more goals in the 42nd and 52nd minute and registered a convincing win of 11-0.

Sr Women’s National: Uttarakhand hold Gujarat


Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 23 April 2015: The battle for the top spot continues as the participating teams made a rousing start on the fourth day of the 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’B’’ Division being played at Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.


The day started with a thrilling encounter between Hockey Uttrakhand and Hockey Gujarat where they posted a goalless draw 0-0. In the second match, Hockey Bihar marked a 4-1 win against Manipur Hockey followed by Vidarbha Hockey Association who wrapped up the day with a crushing 3-0 victory over Hockey Jammu & Kashmir.


The first match of the day between Hockey Uttarakhand and Hockey Gujarat was an exciting clash as in the entire session both teams were seen putting pressure on each other and score. But unable to break each other’s defence to capitalize on the opportunities the match ended in a draw, 0-0.


The second game for the day saw goals finally getting scored as Hockey Bihar proved to be dominant side that played for a 4-1 win against Hockey Manipur. Making their intentions clear from the word go Hockey Bihar maintained a constant attack on Hockey Manipur. In the 7th minute Hockey Bihar got a penalty corner in their name when Anita Sawasi made no mistake in converting. Continuing their pressure, Nagma Khatoon in the 17th minute doubled the score for Hockey Bihar as she slapped a clean pass into the nets and taking the score to 2-0. Just before the end of first half hockey Manipur looking at making a come-back in the match scored through a field effort coming from the stick of Bidyarani Devi T. with the goal the half time scores read 2-1 in favor of Hockey Bihar. The second half yielded similar results for Hockey Bihar as they attacked and scored goals. While on the other hand, Hockey Manipur was unsuccessful in adding any further goal to their tally. Hockey Bihar added two more goals in the 48th and 50th minute and taking a comfortable win of 4-1.


The last match for the day between Vidarbha Hockey Association and Hockey Jammu & Kashmir was a clean win for the former as the game ended in their favor 3-0. The going got easy for Vidarbha Hockey Association because of Sangeets Meshram’s form and great play as she went on to score all three goals of the match leaving the opponents stunned. Not wasting much time, Vidarbha Hockey Association got into business immediately as just 3 minutes into the game Sangeeta Meshram entering the D slammed eth ball into the nets giving eth opponents the first dent. Keeping her momentum high Sangeeta doubled the teams score in the 9th minute through another brilliant field effort and taking the score to 2-0. Already trailing the game, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir got another jolt in the 16th minute as Sangeeta Meshram scored the third field goal successfully. Coming into the game at 3-0, Vidarbha Hockey Association tried to convert further but failed to do so in the entire session. On the other hand looking at opening their account Hockey Jammu & Kashmir was kept at bay in the entire game, resulting in Vidarbha Hockey Association taking the game 3-0.

One-sided games flays at Sr Women’s Champ’ship


Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 24 April 2015: Continuing their winning streak at the ongoing 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’B’’ Division, the teams registered resounding wins against their opponents today at Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.


It was an exciting day today where Hockey Patiala trumped Chhattisgarh Hockey 1-0 in a close contesting match. In the second match, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu stamped a victory over Tripura Hockey 7-0. This followed another exciting encounter between Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Hockey Andhra Pradesh where the former drubbed the latter 9-0. The fourth match witnessed Hockey Rajasthan crushing Hockey Puducherry with a mammoth goal- margin of 18-0. Association of Indian Universities ended the game with a remarkable performance and defeated Bengal Hockey Association 4-0.


The match between Hockey Patiala and Chhattisgarh was an intense battle as both teams not giving each other scoring opportunities, resulting in a dry run for the entire first half. The second half saw its sole goal getting scored by Hockey Patiala which went on to be the winning goal for the team. It was Baby’s efforts in the D which bore results as her field effort found the nets and opening the score in favour for Hockey Patiala. Chhattisgarh Hockey unable to equalize meant Hockey Patiala winning the game 1-0.


Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu not wanting to leave any stone unturned to register a win against Tripura Hockey made intentions clear just two minutes into the game as A. Krishna Mathi scored though a brilliant field goal. Looking at taking the goal score a notch higher Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu registered its second goal in the 13th minute coming from the stick of T. Shobika Raghavi leaving Tripura Hockey frustrated. Going high in their momentum the team took the goal score to 3-0 as a field effort by A. Vijaya Lakshmi bore results. Trailing the game 3-0, Tripura Hockey tried making a comeback in the second half but was unable as Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu continued its onslaught. The team added four more goals in the 32nd, 40th, 51st and 55th minute and won the game 7-0.
The match between Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Hockey Andhra Pradesh rained goals in favour of the former as the team went on to win 9-0 against the opponents. Not wasting any time Hockey Madhya Pradesh was immediately into action in their business side of the field as they put pressure on the opponents. The attack gave results in the 8th minute as Sadhna Senger made no mistake in converting an opportunity into goal and this was followed by the second goal in the 11th minute when another field effort by Rakhi Prajapti allowed Hockey Madhya Pradesh to double its lead. Before going into second half, Hockey Madhya Pradesh added two more goals to their tally which were converted in the 23rd and 27th minute and taking half time scores to 4-0. Second half continued on the same track, with Hockey Madhya Pradesh keeping Hockey Andhra Pradesh busy in keeping them at bay. But undeterred by the opponents defence, Hockey Madhya Pardesh scored its fifth goal in the 37th minute. Within two minutes Seema Verma scored through the penalty corner opportunity and took her teams tally to 6-0. The team scored three more goals before the end of game, won 9-0.


Hockey Rajasthan playing against Hockey Puducherry registered a very convincing win against the opponents as they went onto win the match by 18-0. It was Prakash Choudhary’s brilliant performance of single handedly scoring 12 goals helped her team register the huge win. The game even marked Prakash scoring six back to back goals in the 18th, 22nd, 26th, 29th, 32nd and 36th minute. Wasting no time Prakash was into business the very first minute as she converted through a field effort. This was followed by Beena Panday’s penalty corner conversion in the 2nd minute, taking the score to 2-0. Minute 4th, 5th and 6th marked three consecutive goals by Prakash Choudhary and Sita respectively. Having got a penalty corner, Prakash Choudhary converted it with ease in the 9th minute and took the score to 6-0. This was followed by the team going all out as they scored another 5 goals before the end of first half and the scorecard read 11-0 at the end of session. The rampage by Hockey Rajasthan continued in the second half too as goals rained in regular intervals. Straight into the second session, Prakash added two consecutive goals in the 32nd and 36th minute through field effort, taking the score to 13-0. Another five goals were scored before Hockey Rajasthan registered their win over Hockey Puducherry 18-0.


In the last day of the match, Association of Indian Universities produced a clinical performance and edged past the Bengal Hockey Association 4-0. Association of Indian Universities went onto the attack in the initial 11th minute of the game through Navjeet Kaur’s field effort. Proving the team has clear intentions to win, Shashibala scored a brace in the 14th and 39th minute of the game taking the score to 3-0. Bengal Hockey Association became alert and tried to stop the opponents from capitalizing the scoring prospects but all its efforts went in vain when another field goal was struck by Navjot Kaur in the 53rd minute which concluded the match with 4-0 win in favour of Association of Indian Universities.

Sr Women’s: Patiala, Manipur records big win


Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 26 April 2015: The 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘B’ Division today saw tournament favourites dominated their opponents on field and registered wins in the one-sided clashes. In Pool A, Hockey Patiala outplayed Steel Plant Sports Board by 5-1 and in Pool B, Manipur Hockey thumped down Hockey Jammu & Kashmir by a huge margin of 7-0. Hockey Patiala will now lock horns with Association of Indian Universities in the 1st Semi-Final match whereas Hockey Bihar will face Hockey Madhya Pradesh in the 2nd Semi-Final match to be played on Tuesday.

In the first match of day in Pool A, Hockey Patiala thrashed Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) by a margin of 5-1 with the help of Beant Kaur’s hat-trick and Baby’s brace. It was SPSB, who drew the first blood in the 11th minute of the match when Meena Chakre scored the first goal after dribbling-past opponent’s defence-line. After conceding the goal, Patiala girls charged back with aggressive game and scored goals in regular intervals. Baby scored the first goal for Patiala in the 34th minute with her surprise attack. After seven minutes (41st minute), Beant Kaur sneaked into the opponent’s D scored the second goal for Patiala team. Baby charged again and scored her second goal in the 48th minute of the match to extend the lead by 3-1. In the last few minutes, Beant Kaur displayed her skilful hockey and scored two back-to-back goals in 51st and 58th minutes to complete her spectacular hat-trick. With Beant’s three-goals, Hockey Patiala post a marvellous 5-1 win over Steel Plant Sports Board.

In the Pool B match, Manipur Hockey thumped down Hockey Jammu & Kashmir by a huge margin of 7-0 with help of Sunibala Devi’s brilliant hat-trick in the one-sided clash. Manipur dominated the match from the first minute and their star player Sunibala scored the first goal of the match in 2nd minute only. By demonstrating aggressive game, Manipur earned a two back-to-back penalty corners in 14th and 15th minutes and both were perfectly converted by captain Geetarani Devi and Sunibala respectively. Leading by three goals, Manipur players kept on attacking on Jammu & Kashmir’s half and this time Bidyarani Devi stormed into opponent’s D and scored a spectacular goal in 41st minute of the match. In the 52nd minute, Sunibala scored her hat-trick goal through another penalty corner conversion and extended the lead to 5-0. In the last five minute of the match, Manipur hammered last nails when Jyotibasu Devi scored a spectacular goal in 55th minute, followed by a penalty corner conversion in 58th minute by Priya Chanu. With marvellous team-work, Manipur thumped down Jammu & Kashmir by 7-0.

Sr Women’s Champ’ship: Patiala to face MP in final


Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 28 April 2015: In the 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘B’ Division Semi-Finals today, Hockey Patiala edged past Association of Indian Universities (AIU) by 2-1 and Hockey Madhya Pradesh outplayed Hockey Bihar by 2-1. It will be high-intense clash between the top teams – Hockey Patiala and Hockey Madhya Pradesh in the Final of the tournament tomorrow.

In the 1st Semi-Final match, Hockey Patiala edged past Association of Indian Universities (AIU) by 2-1 with the help of Captain Kulwinder Kaur’s brilliant brace. It was Patiala’s Kulwinder who scored the first goal of the match in the in 7th minute of the match after she sneaked into opponent’s half and sent the ball into the net. However, their joy was short-lived as in the 14th minute, AIU’s Jasreet Kaur managed to enter into the D by dribbling past opponent’s defenders and hit the ball into the goal-box to equalise the score-line 1-1. After the goal, both the team fought neck-to-neck to score the winning goal. In the 29th minute, Patiala earned a crucial penalty corner and Kulwinder converted it perfectly into the winning goal. With this goal, Hockey Patiala defeated Association of Indian Universities by 2-1 and entered in the Final of the tournament.

In the 2nd Semi-final match, Hockey Madhya Pradesh outplayed Hockey Bihar by a narrow margin of 2-1 in an intense tussle. Madhya Pradesh drew the first blood in the 5th minute of the match when Jyoti Pal entered into the opponent’s half and scored a stunning goal to take early lead of 1-0. However, Bihar counter-attacked aggressively and managed to earn a penalty corner in the 12th minute, which was perfectly converted by Priti Singh to equalise the score-line 1-1. After conceding the goal, Madhya Pradesh charged with full force and they got the success in the 24th minute when Rakhi Prajapati sent the ball in the goal-box to score. With the winning goal, Madhya Pradesh reached the Final of the tournament and will face Hockey Patiala in the neck-to-neck clash.
