s2h Exclusive: Aslam Khan: “Interference is the root cause of delay”

Sticking to his words, Mohammad Aslam Khan secretary general of Hockey India, on Friday, submitted his resignation. In a long letter to the hockey India president AK Mattoo, Aslam, gave reasons for giving up his post that he had been holding
for the last 18 months.

A few days ago, Aslam though had decided to relinquish the post of secretary general, but official word came this afternoon. “The system is bad, I don’t want to continue, it will tarnish my image too,” Aslam told the website before sending his resignation today.
Peeved at the way some of his colleagues had been functioning, in the past one-week, Aslam had in fact kept himself away from important meetings of Hockey India. Even today, he didn’t attend FIH and Hockey India meeting.

When asked whether he will continue if his resignation is not accepted, Aslam said: Enough is enough.”

In fact, this is not the first time Aslam had been irked by the some of the top officials of the Hockey India. Way back in July this year, Aslam had expressed his unwillingness to continue with Hockey India, and then had submitted his resignation. But is was not accepted. But this time he meant business!

Among other reasons, elections of hockey body not being held before November 20, was the key issue he had written in his detail letter to Matto. According to Aslam he wanted elections to be held within stipulated time frame of November 20, and given the current scenario, it looked difficult. “Some people within Hockey India are playing dirty games. I don’t want to be a game,” he said.

According to an insider, Aslam saw himself as one of the contenders for the post of secretary general of the elected national hockey federation, but if recent development are any indications, that projected few others including JB Roy from West Bengal, NK Batra of J&K, for the post of secretary general, Aslam saw his chances diminishing , and wanted to quit gracefully.

In fact, Roy, a key figure of Sahara and Hockey India had sorted out their difference recently, which meant Sahara sponsorship with hockey will continue till 2011.
