The Hindu: NEW DELHI: Hockey goalkeeper Baljit Singh will be sent to the USA for treatment of his injured right eye at the well-known Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Keeping in view the seriousness of Baljit’s injury, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) referred the 28-year-old to the Baltimore-based hospital, internationally known for its advanced eye care wing.

With the Sports Ministry agreeing to bear the expenses of Baljit’s treatment, roadblocks have been cleared for the ace custodian’s trip to the USA.

“Baljit is being sent to Johns Hopkins for further advice, follow-up and treatment. One of his relatives and a doctor from the AIIMS will accompany him and the government will take care of all the expenditure incurred on his treatment.

“There is no limit to it,” a top official of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) told The Hindu on Friday.

The SAI official said Baljit would leave for the USA as early as possible.

“We are in touch with the doctors at Johns Hopkins and people in the Indian embassy in the USA. He will catch the earliest possible plane after getting his visa,” the official said.

Baljit injured his right eye while practising with a golf ball during a training camp of the Indian team in Pune.
