Army Red sizzle

Bangalore: Defending champions BPCL, Army Red and Namdhari XI all notched their second consecutive victories from as many outings in the KSHA Super Division hockey league at the SAI South Centre on Monday.

BPCL quelled the challenge from Army Service Corps (ASC) 3-1. The champions are still not in the comfort zone as
they trailed for the second time in two matches when Rajendra Sharma put ASC ahead (24th).

Like in their opener, BPCL killed the rival’s advantage in quick time with the equaliser coming in the 25th minute from the stick of Prabhdeep Singh.

But they couldn’t find another goal till the 64th minute when forward Amar Aiyamma slotted one in. Sabu Varkey found the target two minutes from the hooter to make the issue safe for BPCL.

Earlier, Army Red went on a goal spree to drub Pioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC) 10-2. PCTC, who topped the first phase, have so far struggled in the concluding phase, conceding 16 goals from two outings.

Majhi AK opened the account as early as in the third minute for Army Red. But S Lakra netted the equaliser for PCTC in the 29th minute.

But Army opened the floodgates in the second-half as Ignace Tirkey pumped in five goals while Chittranjan Singh slotted in two.

In the final match of the day, Namdhari XI rallied back to down Army Green 3-1 to take their points tally to six from two matches.
