Is KPS Gill at it again? After allegedly scuttling India’s tour to Poland last month, the former Indian Hockey Federation president apparently targeted the Junior Asia Cup in Hyderabad for a similar operation. Only this time, his plans did not succeed.
According to sources in the Indian Olympic Association, which runs the hockey affairs in the country, Gill allegedly dashed off letters to the state hockey associations stating that the responsibility of holding the Junior Asia Cup in Hyderabad. The IHF communiqué bears the signature of Gill’s secretary Narayan but sources said it was clear Gill was behind it.
To support his argument, Gill even attached a letter from the Asian Hockey Federation which vested the Indian body with the powers to conduct the event, sources said.
“The letter which the state associations received was written by AHF secretary Dato Alagendra to K Jothikumaran,” the sources revealed. “Amongst other things, the letter even specifies the meetings that were scheduled during the Asia Cup.”
However, matters were sorted out The Asian body immediately began a damage control exercise, reportedly stating that the previous letter was a mistake. “They followed it up with a letter that empowered the IOA’s ad hoc committee to run the tournament,” the sources said.
