IOCL win big

Bangalore: Star-studded Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) rallied to outwit Canara Bank 5-2 to secure their first victory in the KSHA Super Division hock ey league (second phase) at the SAI South Centre on Friday.

In other matches, Fortis drubbed hapless PCTC 8-3
while Army Red got the better of Army Green 3-1.

After Varun Chinnappa put Canara Bank ahead in the ninth minute, IOCL struck back strongly when Didar Singh converted two penalty corners in two minutes (13th & 14th).

Bharat Chhikara (23rd) enhanced the tally to make it 3-1 in favour of IOCL in a rain-hit first-half.

John Varghese reduced the arrears for Canara in the 48th minute. IOCL, who were held by Army Green in their opener, struck two more goals to take the game away from the Bankmen.

Danish Mujtaba secured IOCL a two-goal cushion in the 54th minute while Roshan Minz rounded off the tally a minute before the hooter.

Fortis were too good for PCTC with a dominating midfield show and cashed on numerous errors by the PCTC defence to score at regular intervals.

Diwakar Ram scored three goals, for the second consecutive day, for Fortis to help them script their first victory in the league.
