The age-old and popular Bombay Gold Cup, run by the Mumbai Hockey Association, has been cancelled. The event was to start on 15th April.

According to sources, the s2h learnt that a faction in the MHA made a representation to the hockey Ad-hoc Committee of the Indian Olympic Association against the present officer bearers running the Cup. According to PS Sujlana and Ranjit Dalvi from another faction, the court has stopped the MHA to indulge in any activities till it conducts the election.

Elections for the Mumabai Hockey Association were due since 200, and the present authorities were not conducting the election. It seems a court in Mumbai gave a verdict to conduct the election.

The Adhoc committee, often clueless on many issues, took the easy way of cancelling the tournament.

It is worthwhile to note the Bombay Gold Cup was to be the domestic season opener
