Brave Amit gives Saket J the Cairns Cup 2015

If one gives his best when it matters, it takes his team to newer heights. This is exactly what brave Amit Prasad of Government Boys Senior Secondary School, J Block, Saket has achieved in the recently held First Cairns Juniors Cup 2015 at the Shivaji Stadium in the capital city.

Despite having hit hard by opponent’s stocky defender – for that he has got an yellow card suspension –
Amit Prasad, a tenth class student, did not let his spirit down. Instead coming back to the turf after getting treatment from the Red Cross bench on the sidelines, he dished out what turned out to be game changer.

Sprinting down on the wings, and when needed falling back to defend – some of the rebound collection which would have otherwise gone into goal – Amit Ensured his team clinch the major maiden title for his little known school.

Later in the day, he has to undergo complete treatment at Malviya hospital where deep cut above chin cut had to undergo four stitches.

On asked whether he was not disturbed by the big injury midway through the second half, this boy had just a smile on the face, and was only relishing the smell of victory.
Saket J, despite being the carrier of the top contender label, could not show their true potential on Wednesday against the physically stronger but tactically and strategically weaker SS Mota Singh Sr. Secondary School, Janakpuri.

Sushil Chauhan, the livewire midfielder turned forward, Sonu, the burly defender but today sported an aggressive role upfront, ever-green Sunil Kumar did their best, but could not force a goal in the entire sixty minutes.

Saket also wasted a couple of hard earned penalty corners while their rival — two teams who haven’t lost a single match till then — surprisingly put out a strong defensive game to frustrate the likes of Anil Paswan, Shravan Nigam and Vikrant.

In the ensued shoot out, played under floodlights, Saket’s energetic goalie Mohd. Zaseem stopped the shoot of out Mota Singh thrice, leaving Sunil Kumar to post the final winner even before a shot was taken by the ultimate losers.

Its nice to see the whole of Saket School was there to witness the historic victory headed by their Principal, Sunil Kispotta, who himself is a football and hockey player.
It was everyone’s unanimous opinion that it’s the bravery of not much know Amit who helped his school scale a new high last week.

Hockey in fact needs such brave hearts, and the One Thousand Hockey Legs, a flagship program of Delhi based NGO Hockey Citizen Group, is happy to produce one such.
