Chandigarh: CHA trounce HHA 16-0

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Hockey Academy (CHA), a residential venture of UT administration, handed out a 16-0 drubbing to Hyderabad Hockey Academy (HHA) in the opening Group B fixture of the inaugural Administrator’s Challenge Cup Hock ey Tournament at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Thursday.

In a totally lop-sided encounter, CHA established a commanding 8-0 lead in the first half. CHA boys played an aggressive game, attacking the opposition from the word go. They opened their attack in the second minute itself. Gurjinder Singh sent a forward pass inside the striking circle and Gagandeep connected it in a flash. The star CHA forward went on to score in the 8th, 21st and 24th minutes to increase the lead.

The other scorers for CHA were Gurjinder, who sounded the board in the 4th minute through a penalty corner. He also scored in the 40th and 54th minute. CHA boys scored freely, with Bikramjeet finding the goal in 26th, 27th and 43rd minute, Danandeep in 41st, 50th and 53rd minute while Baljit, Abhijit and Gurjant scored in 14th, 42nd, and 49th minute, respectively.

The second match between Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, and Hockey Academy, Gurgaon, could not be played as the latter played truant. Kurukshetra SAI Hockey Academy also withdrew on the plea that they would be competing in the Haryana State Championship.

In a Group C match, Punjab and Sind Bank Academy (PSBA), Delhi, defeated Sports Coaching Centre, Sector 42, 9-4. PSBA scored through Rocky Lonchab, who sounded the board thrice in the 35th, 62nd and 70th minute while Siddharth Shanker struck twice in 8th and 47th minute. Deepak, Praveen Toppo and Manish Bishnoi scored a goal each for the winners.

For Sports Coaching Centre (SCC), Yatin Kumar sounded the board twice in the 20th and 50th minute. Diljot and Manpreet Singh tried to reduce the margin by scoring a goal each for SCC.

Friday’s fixtures: Punjab and Sind Bank Academy vs Mehta Gurukul Hockey Academy, Doraha (9.30 am), Lucknow Hock ey Academy vs Amritsar XI (11 am), Cheema Hockey Academy vs Hyderabad Hockey Academy (3 pm), Sukhchain Hockey Academy, Faridkot, vs Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy, Amritsar (4.30 pm).
