DPS Pinjore pockets six-a-side soccer trophy

DELHI Public School of Pinjore grabbed the Holy Child Under-16 Six-a-Side Football Tournament overpowering hosts Holy Child School, Morni Road, Panchkula with an aggre gate 6-5 in the sudden death tie-breaker final played today.

In the regular period the teams were locked two-all. Vinay Ahuja gave Holy Child the lead with a goal in the 15th minute. However, the lead short lived as Abhinav Jain equalised for DPS in the 18th minute. One minute later Kanahiya put DPS ahead while Shivam restored parity for Holy Child in the 36th minute. In the tie-breaker session, Vinay, Shivam and Ankit converted their penalties. Qazi Muhazib, Kanahiya andChitanjeet converted their spot kicks. With score standing at five-all the sudden death rule was applied and Qazi Muhazib clinched the issue for DPS by converting his spot kick. CHANDIGARH: ST Stephen’s School, Sector 45 thrashed Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35 by a margin of 5-0 to cruise into the next round of the State Hockey Championship being conducted by Chandigarh Women Hockey Association held at Sector 18 Hockey Stadium on Monday.

In another one-sided match, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19 hammered four goal to get past Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 with a 4-0 drubbing. Meanwhile, the host team won the match through walk-over when Sector 42 Sports Complex team failed to show up. The other matches of the day could not be held due to heavy rain.
