IOC, EME enter quarterfinals

Chandigarh: Star-packed Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Western Railways and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) qualified for quarterfinals of the 38th SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament, being held at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, on Friday. Punjab Police, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, BSF, Jalandhar, and Air India have been seeded straight into the quarterfinals on the basis of their performance in the last edition of Gurmit Hockey .

The quarterfinals line-up will be as follows: Punjab Police vs Indian Oil Corporation, EME vs IOB, BSF vs ONGC and Western Railways vs Air India. IOC grounded Indian Air Force 4-0 after leading 1-0 at half time.

Raghunath converted the second penalty corner awarded to them in the 29th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Prabhjot Singh then scored a field goal in the 43rd minute while Didar Singh sounded the board in the 51st minute. Deepak Thakur got IOC’s fourth goal in the 67th minute.

EME continued their winning spree as they edged out Punjab National Bank 1-0.
