Lucknow Academy in semis with huge win

LUCKNOW HOCKEY Academy made it to the last four stage after routing Rail Coach Factory, Kaputhala, 16-1 in the 1st Administrator’s Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament for under-17 being organised by the Chandigarh Sports Department at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium, Chandigarh, on Saturday .
Striker Sunil Kumar, who scored four goals including a hattrick, was the star performer for Lucknow Hockey Academy. Sunil scored in the second, fifth and 14th minutes. He completed his tally of four individual goals in the 48th minute. Arif (19th), Faiz Alam (21st pc, 45th), Chandan Singh (26th, pc), Surya Partap Singh (40th), Brijesh Kumar (43rd) and Deepak Yadav (46th) were the other goal scores for the wining team.
In another lopsided match, Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, scored a huge 14-1 win over Sukhchain Hockey Academy, Faridkot, in the Group A match.
Harjinder Singh (20th, 24th, 54th, 64th) and Akshdeep Singh (17th, 46th, 61st, 62nd) were the main goal scorers.
Gorav Sehgal contributed three goals – 12th, 42nd, 67th minutes. Satbir Singh contributed two goals in the 10th and 47th minutes while Prabhdeep netted one goal in the 29th minute. The lone goal for Sukhchain Academy was scored by Sandeep Kumar in the 50th minute.
Sukhchain Academy suffered their second successive defeat and is out of title contention. Surjit Hockey Academy will meet Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy, Amritsar, on Sunday to decide the group leaders. Both the teams have won their opening round matches. Punjab and Sind Bank, Jalandhar, recorded their second win and have enhanced their chances of qualifying for the semifinals from pool C. Jalandhar Bankmen defeated Punjab and National Bank Academy, Delhi, 6-1.
