Chandigarh: Trailing by one goal, Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy, Khadoor Sahib, staged a fine rally to down DAV Senior Secondary School Academy, Sector 8, by 2-1 in the four-team round-robin league phase of the 7th SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (U-14) hock ey tournament, being organized by Rock Rovers Club, at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
BUSH Academy enjoyed territorial supremacy as they forced a dozen penalty corners out of which they could capitalize only two. On the other hand, DAV Academy forced three penalty corners and converted one.
DAV Academy shot into the lead in the 35th minute when Harsimranjeet converted a penalty corner. Stunned with the reverse, BUSH Academy retaliated and got the equaliser in the 39th minute through Amardeep Singh, who converted a penalty corner. BUSH Academy kept on their pressure and snatched the winner through Gurpreet Singh, who also converted a penalty corner in the 55th minute. It was BUSH Academy’s second successive victory which brightened their chances to qualify for the final. On Wednesday, BUSH Academy beat Malwa Khalsa School Academy, Ludhiana, 1-0.
In the second match of the day, Malwa Khalsa School Academy tasted their first success in the four-team league phase by beating Jarkhar Academy, Ludhiana, 4-1. Malwa Khalsa Academy scored through Harman Singh (2nd), Ranjeet Singh (15th) and Dhanraj Singh (28th, 60th). Shaminder Singh converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute to reduce the margin for Jarkhar Academy. Jarkhar and DAV played out a 2-2 draw in their first match on Wednesday.
