Chandigarh: Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, commenced their campaign with a bang as they thrashed MSS, Rohtak, 4-1 in the 7th SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior U-14 Hockey Tournament being organized by Rock Rovers at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here on Monday.

They overcame an early setback as MSS forged ahead in the 9th minute through a field goal scored by Monu. After settling down, Surjit Hockey Academy started asserting themselves and neutralized the lead in the 14th minute though Baljinder who converted a penalty corner. Then Lovepreet swung into action and scored in the 35th and 39th minutes to give Surjit Hockey Academy a 3-1 lead.

Maintaining their pressure, centre forward Mandeep Singh rounded of the winners’ tally in the 43rnd minute with a field goal.

DAV Hockey Academy, Chandigarh, ended the challenge of CRZ School, Sonepat, 4-2.

DAV Academy forced their first penalty corner in the 4th minute and Harsimran Singh converted it with ease. Vinay restored parity for CRZ with a field goal in the 15th minute. The Sonepat school gained a 2-1 lead after Pardeep scored in the 26th minute.

In the second half DAV enjoyed territorial supremacy with their forwards moving in unison.

Parminder (41st), Balwinder (46th) and Ramandeep (35th) added one goal each to the winners’ tally.

Jarkhar Hockey Academy, Doraha, defeated Mehta Gurukul Academy 4-3 in the tiebreaker. The teams were locked 1-1 in the regulation period. Gurjeet gave Jarkhar Hockey Academy the lead with a field goal in the 16th minute. Jaswant made it 1-1 for Mehta Gurukul Academy with a field goal in the 22nd minute.
