Chennai: Andra Pradesh clinched the Dhanraj Memorial Trophy in the South Zone sub-junior girls’ hockey tournament at the YMCA College of Physcial Education on Wednesday.
The Andhra team won all its three matches in the four-team round robin league.
On Wednesday, Andhra scored a comfortable 4-0 victory over Tamil Nadu to take its tally of points to nine.
Earlier, Andhra defeated Kerala 9-0 and Karnataka 2-1.
Mr. Henry Maris, Secretary, Nazareth Arts and Science College, Avadi, gave away the prizes in the presence of Ms. R.S.K. Bhagyalakshmi, President, Tamil Nadu Women’s Hockey Association. A minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the memory Mr. Dhanraj, former Assistant Secretary and Tournament Director, TNWHA, who passed away recently.
The results: Andhra 4 (Rajani, Mamatha 2, Pavithra) beat Tamil Nadu 4-0; Karnataka 7 (Tripthi 3, Vijaylakshmi, Harinakshi 2, Neha) beat Kerala 1 (Saranya).
Tuesday’s results: Andhra 9 (Aswini 2, Pavithra, Hemalatha, Devakumari, Mamatha 2, Madhu, Rajani) bt Kerala 0; Tamil Nadu 2 (S. Ramya 2) beat Kerala 1 (Soorya Lakshmi); Andhra 3 (Rajani, Mamatha, Madhu) bt Karnataka 1 (Harinakshi).
