Timely intervention of Court saves genuine Kerala hockey body

s2h special

A timely intervention by the High Court of Kerala saves the genuine state hockey body, Association of Kerala Hockey.

The Hon’ble High Court Judge PN Ravindran of the Kerala High Court at Ernakulam directed in no uncertain terms ‘to grant provisional affiliation to the petitioner Society (Association of Kerala Hockey, headed by Nizamuddin) pending consideratin of the WPC’.

This is a blow the State Olympic Association, which purposefully did not grant affiliation to genuinely constituted state hockey body.

Kerala hockey association and Kerala Women Hockey Association merged to form Association of Kerala Hockey in June this year.

However, as per the peculiar directive of the Indian Olympic Association, its state associations have been asked to take over the business of granting affiliation to unified single hockey association.

Under this garb, a few State Olympic Associations, instead playing a mediatory role, have taken sides, without bothering about who actually enjoys majority and who followed the merger process in letter and spirit.

This trend we saw in Karnataka, where despite the KSHA following all the norms and not even having a rival faction, the Karnataka Olympic Association tried to play different ball game. However, the solidarity enjoyed by the ever-resilent Krishanmurthy has recently won his battle.

Close on the heels of Karnatka OA biting its dust, comes another blow to the Delhi Mandarins who try to float all norms of deceny in order to get themselves elected — hurriedly

In Kerala, Nizamuddin faction was in solid majority. They merged with women, giving secretry post to women’s federation, Mercy Anthony, then Secretary of the KSWHF.

A disgruntled official of the Kerala Hockey Association, who owes allegience to disgraced Gill faction, went out and registered first Hockey Kerala and then Kerala Hockey Association with hardly a couple of old members.

On the contrary, Nizamuddin group formed the association, incorporating women’s, and invited Government Observer for the unification election as well. Sports Council of Kerala too gave its affiliation to Nizamuddin’s side. This their letter of acceptanace has also been forwarded to Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Upon his association not granted affiliation by the state Olympic Association, Nizamuddin approached the court for justice, which he neatly got. He filed the case about 10 days ago, the Judge heard the arguments in two sittings before issueing the above mentioned interim order. In their disposal the government of Kerala deposed in favour of Niazamuddin.

The court in its interim order further directed Hockey India ‘not to grant affiliation to the organization which the fifth respondent (N.M Abdul Rahman) represents untill further orders.’

Another black in the face for the manipulating Indian Olympic Association, first Karnataka and now Kerala. Before these two, Rajasthan Hockey Association also secured a stay against State bodies’ dissolution by the State OA.

It is interesting to note here the Kerala Olympic Association president NM Abdul Rahman is 80-year old retired police official, and is shown as Patron of ‘Hockey Kerala’. How could patron of a rival faction sit on the seat of Judgement? This mockery went on for sometime in Kerala till Kerala High Court passed today’s interim order.

Further amusement is that one disgruntled former Kerala official went on to register two societies — ‘Hockey Kerala’ first and then again Kerala Hockey Association!! What more confusion does the IOA want to create?
