NEW DELHI: The suspended Indian Hockey Federation, headed by K.P.S. Gill, held its Annual General Meeting here on Wednesday and cocked a snook at the Indian Olympic Association by passing the annual statement of accounts for the year 2007-08.

The AGM also took various decisions related to the staging of tournaments and conducting elections to the federation this year. This was at a time when the ad-hoc committee formed by the IOA to run hockey has been deliberating over the appointment of the National coach for the men’s team and its ad-hoc selection committee is involved in the process of selecting players for the national camp.

After the three hour long AGM, Mr. Gill claimed he had “the support of most members.” Asked if there was a quorum of the 41-member federation to proceed with the meeting, Mr. Gill said: “Absolutely. There were 20-25 members present, more than what was required for the quorum.”

When asked about the exact number of the members, Mr. Gill said the media would be informed about them later.

Mr. Gill also announced the general body’s decision to resume hockey activities that, according to him, had been “totally moribund for some time in the country.”

The AGM also decided to hold a sub-junior national tournament on a zonal basis in November with the final to be hosted by the Chandigarh Hockey Association.

The IHF president said the AGM also held discussions regarding holding of elections to the suspended body.

“We are waiting for the court’s decision. We want to hold elections by the end of November with the court’s permission.” — Special Correspondent
