Patiala, Rai teams enter second stage

NEW DELHI: Dudhiyal Khalsa High School, Patiala and Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, entered the second stage of the Nehru junior hockey tournament at the conclusion of the preliminary league here on Wednesday.
The Patiala team beat St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, Nagaland, 3-1 in its last group ‘E’ match. Gagandeep Singh (2) and Jatinder Singh were the scorers for the winner while Pusato Angawi reduced the margin.
MNSS, Rai drew 4-4 with NCC Directorate, Jharkhand, in its final group ‘A’ match. Kartik Kumar (2) and Ajay Kumar (2) were the Rai scorers while Abhay Minz, Sandeep Tirkey, Niranjan Minz and Praveen Xalxo scored for the NCC team.
In two inconsequential league matches, Sainik School Tilaiya, Jharkhand, beat Government Residential Sports Institute, Sehore, M. P., 6-2 and Government Higher Secondary School, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, beat St. Anthony’s High School, Bardez, Goa, 7-0.
Vivek Tirkey, Raju Kumar (2), Sushil Saurav (2) and Anshul Kumar scored for Sainik School while Brajesh Parmar scored both the goals for the Sehore team.
Chandrahas Sahu scored four goals including a hat-trick in the Rajnandgaon team’s win. Ishwar Singh (2) and Rakesh Kumar also scored.
Groupings for second phase: Group ‘A’: St. Mary’s High School, Simdega (Jharkhand), Sat Guru Pratap Singh Academy, Sri Bhaini Sahib (Ludhiana), Government Senior Secondary School, Gurgaon.
Group ‘B’: Government Senior Secondary School, Jarkar, Ludhiana, Guru Gobind Singh Sports School, Lucknow, Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai.
Group ‘C’: Bright Scholar Senior Secondary School, Sonepat, Government Aided Academy, Muzaffarpur, Dudhiyal Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Patiala.
Group ‘D’: NCC Directorate, Orissa, CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonepat, Young Pioneer English School, Imphal.
