Dhyanchand to resign as IHAF’s Selection Committee member

Bhopal, June 5:
Indian Hockey Ad hoc Federation’s Selection Committee member and former Olympian hockey player Ashok Dhyanchand today announced that he would resign as member of the committee.
Dhyanchand said here that the Indian Olympic Federation had formed the Indian Hockey Ad hoc Federation’s Selection Committee headed by former hockey captain Ajitpal Singh after dissolving the Indian Hockey Federation.

Apart from him, the committee’s members were Zafar Iqbal, D Pillay and Aslam Sher Khan. He said he did not wish to continue as selection committee member. He would fax his resignation to the IOA’s New Delhi office on June 8.
On being asked about the reason behind the decision, the former Olympian said there was no anger with anybody behind the decision. He merely wanted to be free of the responsibility.
Recently, the IOA had announced constituting of the Hockey India Federation. Senior Sports Administrator A Mattu had been appointed its chairperson, while Khan is secretary. The Federation would constitute state-wise units shortly.

Meanwhile, several IHA units had raised objections to the constitution of the HIF and announced to not be a part of it.
