Eastern Railway beat Northern 2-1 in the All India Inter-Railway hockey championship quarterfinals

Chennai: Northern Railway’s hopes of defending their title was dashed as they were ousted by Eastern Railway with a 2-1 margin in the quarterfinal of the All India Inter-Railway hockey championship here this evening.

In the other quarterfinal tie, runners-up South Central Railway made the semifinal thrashing North Central Railway with a whopping 5-0 margin.

Northern went in to the lead through a penalty ‘stroke’ conversion by Raju but Eastern’s Asheesh Singh Sengal came up with a brace of goals finding the target following penalty corners.

In the first match, South Central Railway went in to the lead through superb conversions by Innocent Kulu to a 2-0 scoreline. Then, Bharath capped with two field goals before J Gupta scored the fifth goal.
