Govt slaps Hockey India with a showcause

In what can prove to be another major boost to the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), and a blow to the very existence of Hockey India, the sports ministry on Monday issued a showcause notice to both the parties, asking the former to chalk out ways to meet the FIH guidelines, while demanding explanation from HI as to why it should not be derecognised.

The KPS Gill-led IHF has been ordered to explain within 14 days as to “how you propose to meet the requirements of the FIH of having a unified body for men and women to obtain their membership.”

The ministry further asked the IHF, which was suspended in 2008, to confirm that it will comply to the government guidelines for recognition of the national sports federations.

On the other hand, citing that the HI is a self-proclaimed private body, the ministry has asked current ruling body of the game to send its reply before August 5, the day of its elections.
