Hockey India prunes schedule

Mumbai: The Indian hockey team plays too many matches, according to Jose Brasa. The newly appointed chief coach has forced some changes in the team’s schedule for this year.
Hockey India secretary general Mohammad Aslam Khan said on Saturday that the upcoming Test series at home against Germany, Australia and Spain may be scrapped.

“Ideally the coach should have a say in the team’s calendar. We formed it when he wasn’t there with us but he has since suggested a few changes that we will incorporate,” Khan told DNA. Though he did not confirm, it is learnt that one of the Test series will be played in October. A four or six-nation tournament could be held in November involving major international teams.

In December, India will play the Champions Challenge in Argentina. “We will confirm the revised calendar within a week or two,” Khan said.
