League match of women’s hockey tournament ends in draw

Bhopal: The league match of All-India Women’s Hockey Tournament played between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Shahabad Academy ended in a 1-1 draw at the Aishbagh Stadium in Bhopal.

In another fixture, Orissa XI trounced Uttar Pradesh XI by 7-4.

In the first match, Ramneek Kaur of Shahabad Academy scored a brilliant field goal in the 15th minute for her team.

Shahabad Academy led 1-0 at the breather.

But in the second-half, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy played an attacking game and converted a penalty corner to level the score 1-1 through Jamila Bano in the 52nd minute.

In the second match, Poonam Barla of Orissa XI scored two goals in the 15th and 24th minutes in the first-half. The first was a brilliant field goal while the second was scored off a penalty corner.

Rashmi Singh of Uttar Pradesh XI scored the first goal for her team in the 32nd minute and reduced the margin to 2-1.

At the breather, Orissa XI led 2-1.

In the second-half, Poonam scored her third goal in the 51st minute while Anupa Barla hit two goals in the 38th and 54th minutes for Orissa.

Later, Binita Kindo, captain of Orissa XI scored two goals in the 57th and 69th minutes.

Prakash Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh got the first hat-trick of the tournament by scoring three consecutive goals in the 59th, 61st and 68th minutes for her team but despite this Uttar Pradesh lost the match by a margin of 4-7.
