Sahara to reward hockey players

Sahara India has announced a cash incentive of Rs1.29 crore for the Indian hockey team that won the Olympic qualifiers.

Out of that, an amount of 1.16 crore will be distributed among the players and the support staff of the team that has qualified for the London Games.

Sardar Singh and Sandeep Singh have been awarded Rs11 lakh each, while the rest of the team members, along with the main coach, will get Rs5 lakh each. The support staff will also get an incentive of Rs1 lakh each.

Subrata Roy, chairman of the Sahara India Pariwar, said, “We are very proud that India performed so well in this tournament. Hockey is our national game and we are proud of being associated with it. This reward is a small token of appreciation from us to encourage the sportsmen and the support staff to achieve greater success and bring laurels to our beloved nation through our national sport,” he said.
