‘Turning point in Indian hockey’

By Mihir Vasavda

It is difficult to express the mood of exuberance inside the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium after India made its first entry into the hockey final of the CWG on Tuesday.

Their performance exceeded all expectations. “I am stunned. This Indian team is special. They have done a fabulous job and have made all of us proud,” said a beaming V Baskaran, the former coach of the team.

“I think he (Brasa) has done a fantastic job with the team. We had to wait for a long time for a positive result in his tenure but this win shows that he has got something right,” said Baskaran.

Olympian Zafar Iqbal said, “I thought it would be tough for us in the penalty strokes. But kudos to the boys for fighting tenaciously. (Bharat) Chetri’s save was fantastic. This is surely the turning point in Indian hockey. I hope good things continue to happen,” Iqbal said.
