We have the upper hand: Shahid Ali Khan

New Delhi: DNA talks to Pakistan coach Shahid Ali Khan on the big match and their teams’ chances.

Your thoughts on the game…

It is going to be a pressure game. Whenever India and Pakistan play, pressure is always there. The pressure will be more on India, as they will be playing at home.

Do you think crowd will play a big role?

Yes. When you have thousands of people cheering for you, it can make a big difference. India will have that advantage, but at the same time, if they fail to get a good start, it may go against them. They may lose the support.

Your views on Indian team…

Experience will play a major role in this tie. India have few experienced players in their side. We have an upper hand, as we have more players, who have played around 300 international matches. In such quality matches, these things matter a lot.

What is the ‘one thing’ that you said to your players?

There is no scope of errors. The team, which follows discipline and stick to their plan, will win. That is all I said to my boys. At the same time, I have also said that goalkeepers will play an important role. Both the teams will play an attacking game and it is the goalkeeper, who will have to work hard.

Who’s the key player from India?

Sandeep Singh. He can be dangerous for us.

And from Pakistan?

Sohail Abbas. I am sure, he will bring in all his experience and skills for this match.

What do you feel about the other teams in fray?

All the teams are strong. When it comes to rankings, both Pakistan and India stand below the order. But there are chances of upsets as both the teams are capable of defeating their European counterparts.

How do you rate India and Pakistan’s chances?

I think both will make it to the semifinals.
