Mazzilli’s early goal set the tone for us: Roelant Oltmans

Playing the second match of the tournament, Uttar Pradesh Wizards displayed some outstanding hockey as they routed Kalinga Lancers 10-0 in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The rout has definitely shaken the home side, more so the full stands. However, the tune and tenor of the match from the beginning was in favour of the visiting side.

While Mazzilli scored the goal in the first minute itself, Ramandeep Singh and Akashdeep Singh added two field goals to secure the first win for their team in a grand fashion.

“I am extremely pleased with performance of the team. We were outstanding in first half. The boys executed the game plan from first minute. Mazilli’s goal set the tone for us. That was a fantastic goal. The set up was good but the finishing was even better,”
said a happy coach Roelant Oltmans.

“It was a good day for us”.

“I feel, we lost a little control in the second half. I am not completely satisfied with it. But, of course, if you have a 10-0 lead, you can always be proud and happy. It is only second match we played and you can clearly see the improvement. Hopefully, we can grow as a team in the upcoming matches.”

Adding to it, Man of the Match Akashdeep Singh said, “We conceded goal in the dying seconds in our last encounter against Mumbai”.

“Today, we worked on our defence and tried to capitalize on counter-attacks and thankfully, we got results,” Akashdeep Singh who received a cheque of Rs.50,000 for his feat, said
