stick2hockey.com editor K. Arumugam met the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shir MS Gill today at his chamber to apprise him of latest developments in hockey and also to suggest some practical ways to ameliorate the hockey situation in the country.

Following the editor’s seeking, the Minister granted him an appointment today at his office in the Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.

During the one to one meeting, editor suggested five solid steps needed for hockey to be reformed and revamped. Those five suggestions, according to the editor, is within the powers of the ministry he heads, and that is in no way impinging on the Federations’ normal functions and dutites.

The aspects discussed included chief coach issue, High Performance Processes, Time bound hockey package, better mechanism to decipher ground realities of hockey training, forming a multi-disciplinary Advisory Panel to guide the ministry on hockey matters.

Since I made the suggestions in writing, with brief background material and sound support data, Minister assured that he will go through them in the night and go by whatever is practicable. He also made it clear that he would not like to initiate any actions to correct the past and will go by the autonamy of the Federations.

The Minister was happy to receive a copy of each the latest hockey year book and great Indian olympians.

The meeting lasted for about 25 minutes.
