The Hockey India Election Observer BK Mendiratta has released the Hockey India Electoral college to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
As per the list, former IWHF Secretary Amrit Bose’same is not in the list. Delhi will now be reprsented in the election by KPS Gill and Dr. Mrs. Sudharshan Pathak. Each association is supposed to nominate one male and female members for the election.
Another surprise element is absence of voters of Hockey Karnataka. The list says the names have not been received. Hockey Karnataka’s Secretary Krishnamurthy has categorically said he has all proofs of him sending the names in time. This is expected to be corrected if concerned people approach the issue the way it deserved to be.
It seems there is also a dispute concerning Hockey Chandigarh, which will be settled by the Returning Officer on the day of election. As per the list, the Chandigarh Olympic Association has not recommended any one. This is likely upset veteran Chandrasekhar’s vote.
A couple of days ago, Suresh Kalmadi, who have been long believed to be in the contest for the president election, could not get himself nominated by the Maharashtra Hockey. Insiders claim this was precisely the reason the Hockey India did not release the list of electoral college yesterday. Now, Mendiratta has come forward and submitted it to the Ministry
Like Kalmadi, Amrit Bose also was believed to be in the race for a strong post. However, the list signed by Hockey India’s interim president Vidhya Stokes does not include her.
The omission of both Bose and Kalmadi seems to be good sign of things to come. KPS Gill, never a member of Delhi Association however made it, it needs further scrutiny.
An array of former players, Pargat Singh, his bete noire Thoiba Singh, Neeta Dumre and Savitri Purty are in the list. However, personallities like Bula are missing. Let us wait and see whom they support in the election.
