Family tangle in World Series Hockey

That every player in India wanted play in the World Series Hockey, but most of them have been prevented from doing so, is a fact.

Given an option, as a professional lot, every one of them would like to be part of anybody who organize
tournament or league, which will have sufficient incentive, as is the case with hugely beneficial WSH.

If someone has a doubt about it, here is a reality: how in the same family while
‘India’ player kept himself out of WSH, while his brother makes waves in the Hockey India’s bete noire event.

Sardar Singh’s mentor is his elder brother Didar Singh, who played high level tournament including Champions Trophy. Both have in 2005 taken a bold decision to break away from the Namdharis rank and join Indian Oil Corporation team, which then was a taboo for the Namdhari cult of hockey.

Now, while Sardar Singh — who preferred to attend a WSH promotional event and thus gave a bye to Asian Champions Trophy six months ago — has taken diametrically opposite view, of ‘nation’ first but his brother Didar is representing Sher-e-Punjab team in WSH currently.

Similarly, Hamza Mujtaba, elder brother of Danish Mujtaba, represented Chennai Cheetahs, a team that flattered to deceive, and are out of WSH elimination round.

Super star Yuvraj Walmiki’s younger brother Devinder Walmiki – both regularly play in the Germany league – turned out to be Mumbai Marines’ livewire, wining Man of the Match awards twice in the first three matches itself.

None of the above mentioned would have dared to be part of WSH without the family consent, and here we feel constraints a hockey player face, and confront in his professional career prospects.

And of course we have full family in the WSH. This list includes Antil and Pillay Pariwar, to quote a few.
