Feel Turf, Chennai, programm off to a good start

Students of three schools converged at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai to ‘feel the turf’ on Thursday.

This event has been organized to get a set of students play on the sytnethic turf.
Organized under ‘One Thousand Hockey Legs’ project, the students of the city’s three schools played a friendly match. It is for the first time these students of 10-15 age group had the opportunity to test their game skills on the turf.

The event which lasted about two hours was organized by Hockey Citizen Group, which runs such programs in other three cities, Kanpur, Kolkata and Puducherry.

St. Bede’s Anglo-Indian school (Santhome), St. Antony School (Egmore) and Don Bosco (Egmore) participated in the program.

Volunteers V. Ravichandran, Dinesh and Saravana Somesh besies Roving CEO of Hockey Citizen Group were present on the occasion.

First Don Bosco school beat St. Anthony by 2-0 goals while age-wise superior St. Bede’s school defeated combined team of Anthony and Don Bosco, again by 2-0 goals.

The students were given posters and pamphletes in order to create awareness of hockey.

Hockey Citizen Group has brought out a catchy CWG 2010 Silver Medalist pamphlet which includes photos of each member of the Indian men’s team.

Along with this, two booklets entitled ‘ABC of Hockey’ and ‘Present Day Hockey Players’ were also distributed to children.

According to the organizers, these three small but handy publications are aimed at providing content to young generation.
