Forwards excel in tie-break, as India wins Maiden ACT

Indian players and coaching staff give us big cheer, winning the Asian Champions trophy for us at Ordos. In the final where Indian defence seemed to have stood like a rock of Gibratltor, India emerged victorious in the tie-break, after regulation time and 15-minute extra time did not produce any goals.

It is a great cheer for Micahle Nobbs the Indian chief coach who is on his maiden mission, and what a start had has had.

About a couple of hours before the Indian team set off for the crucial final at Ordos, Michale Nobbs observed the below in stick2hockey.com feedback.

Yes. It is a pity as the team has done extremely well. The Chinese association or whatever body organised it didn’t see fit to get any matches covered except the matches the Chinese team played in. Unfortunately we were only told of this on our arrival. Ordos is called the ghost city and there are very few people at the games although the place is spectacular. We are just about to get on the bus to go to the game. The players are really excited and lets hope we do well. The young players have performed well and our future certainly lies with them”.

His sentiment is well taken and its tallies with the nation’s mood, as the organizers failed to bring alive the matches.

His team, though, gave him and the nation a moment to cherish, as it did not lose a single match in the 10-day carnival.

Both sides were goalless at the end of regulation time and even the extra time of fifteen minutes did not produce any goal.

In the resultant tie breaker skipper Rajpal Singh, Danish Mujtaba, Yuvraj Walmiki and Sarwanjit Singh beat Pakistan goalkeeper Imran Shah, while Gurvinder Singh Chandi was unsuccessful in his attempt.

The tie breaker was a one on one between the striker and goalkeeper from the twenty three meter line. The striker was given only eight seconds to score.

The victorious Indian team shall return on Tuesday.
