Leading South Africa’s challenge at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be Tim Drummond.

The 33-year-old creates the buzz in the midfield and has been the country’s mainstay since 2012 when he made his international debut. A gifted sportsman, Drummond was a cricketer for KwaZulu-Natal Inland where he sparkled as a right-hand bat and wicket keeper.

When he found time between hockey and cricket, he swung the club with aplomb on the golfing greens.

But Drummond’s greatest passion is hockey and is committed towards stretching the limits for South Africa who strive to overcome hurdles to make a mark internationally.

Playing for Dutch club Klein Zwitserland after a stint with SCHC, Drummond brings to the fore his experience of his stints in Europe to the national team.

Gold medals at the 2013 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations adorn his showcase but a good show at Tokyo and a significant climb up the rankings must surely be his great big aim.
