Lopsided matches order of the day
GURGAON: On a day of one-sided matches, only Chhotu Ram Zamindar Senior Secondary School, Sonepat, Haryana, was stretched a little before winning 2-0 over SDNN Higher Secondary School, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, in the Nehru junior hockey tournament here on Tuesday.
After a goalless first half, Mohit and Naveen Kumar scored for the winner.
Three other matches produced goals aplenty. Dudhiyal Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Patiala, trounced Government Residential Sports Institute, Sehore, M.P., 18-0 after a 7-0 first-half lead.
Jatinder (2), Gagandeep Sr. (2), Tarandeep (3), Gagandeep Jr. (2) Sukhdev Singh (4), Ramanbir Singh (3), Harsimranjit Singh and Ajay Singh were the scorers.
Young Pioneer English School, Imphal, routed Government Sports High School, Kudige, Karnataka, 11-1 in another match.
The Manipur side scored through M. David Singh (3), Ktrimayum Wangamba (2), Moirang Bronson Singh (2), Mayengbam Prem Chand, Khadangpam Kothajit, Konjengbam Devashwor and N. Biken Singh. Farhan Adil reduced the margin.
In another high-scoring match, Government Senior Secondary School, Gurgaon, blanked G.V. Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram, 9-0.
Rohit Malik slammed home three penalty corners to lead the Gurgaon scoring chart.
Manoj, Naveen, Arvind Sharma, Sandeep, Anuj and Ran Singh netted one each. — Special Correspondent
