PNB qualifies for semifinals
GURGAON: Punjab National Bank came from behind to hold Indian Oil to a 1-1 draw and qualified for the semifinals of the Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament at the Nehru Stadium here on Monday.
Navdeep Singh struck the equaliser for the bank team two minutes after resumption. Bikramjit Singh had converted a penalty corner in the 25th minute to put Indian Oil ahead.
In the semifinals, Indian Oil, which topped the group with two wins apart from the draw, will take on Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
Punjab National Bank will challenge Bharat Petroleum which finished on top in the other group with three wins.
BP blanks ONGC
Bharat Petroleum scored a 3-0 victory over ONGC to finish the quarterfinal league in style. Amar Aiyamma (2) and Hari Prasad found the goals.
In an inconsequential match, South Central Railway recorded a 5-2 victory over Namdhari XI after leading 4-0 at the interval.
Mayur Subbiah (2), Ashish Minz, Mohammad Aleem and Amit Shrivas scored for the Railway team. Gurbhaj Singh converted two penalty corners for Namdhari. — Special Correspondent
