HIL 2017 M8: Goal blitzkrieg leaves Lancers high and dry

Match No.8 of the Hockey India League saw visiting Uttar Pradesh Wizards unleashing a goal blitzkrieg in the first half, four field goals counting on the scoreboard as eight, and then adding another peach of a field goal from Man of the Match Akashdeep Singh to leave home team Kalinga Lancers high and dry with an unbelievable 10-0 rout.

The goal rout started in the first minute when Argentina’s Rio Olympic gold medallist Augustine Mazzilli tapped a feed inside D, despite loose trap, managed to roll the ball in his front to whack a backhand for the stunner of a goal (1 min).



Four minutes later, after surviving twin close attacks, Ramandeep Singh positioned close to goalie tapped in a mild cross into the cage to enhance the lead to 4-0.

In the second quarter too UPW struck two goals first by again Ramandeep Singh (6-0)in the 23rd minute followed by Akashdeep Singh, whose forehand midway in the circle dashed into the net left of acute angle covering goalie (8-0) in the 27th minute.

Kalinga Lancers had its opportunities in the last quarter, but Sreejesh would not allow any elbow room. On couple of occasions Lalit Upadhyay and Glenn Turner just missed what seemed sitters.

Overall, Kalinga even failed to fetch a solitary penalty corner, even their referral did not click with the neutral umpire.

On both the occasions the ultimate winners got penalty corners, taken by Raghunath, Kalinga did not yield.

After two successive wins, Kalinga has posted two heavy defeats 7-2 to Ranchi and then 10-0 today.

Dabang Mumbai, with 12 points after two wins and draw in three matches, top the table followed by today losers.
