While the sports ministry has hiked the monthly salary of foreign coach, Michael Nobbs, from Australian $10,000 to 11,000 (R5.5 lakh), Hockey India is yet to come up with a blueprint on a graded system of payment for players or how it plans to share the sponsorship money will them.
All that has been finalised after India’s victory over France in the Olympic Qualifiers on Sunday is a one-time cash award of R1 lakh each.

HI secretary-general, Narinder Batra, had a meeting with the winning team members where he said the federation was working on a retainership plan. He also warned the players against joining the World Series of Hockey.

HT had recently reported that despite getting R5.5 crore as sponsorship money from Sahara India from July 2010 to December 2011, HI had not given a single rupee to the players.
