Decision on foreign coaches soon
The fate of several foreign coaches, including India’s Spanish hockey coach Jose Brasa, will be known by the end of next week. The Sports Ministry, after a high-level meeting with the National Sports Federations and Sports Authority of India (SAI), has asked the federations to give reasons for the decision to remove or retain foreign coaches. “All federations should give details within a week,” said a SAI official.
Some federations like shooting, boxing, wrestling have already said they would like to extend the contracts of all the coaches.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and the Indian boxing federation have been pushing for an additional coach.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) however wants to retain the group of foreign coaches and support staff.
Meanwhile, the allowances, which the athletes were getting for the CWG will not be reduced.
The sports ministry also plans to identify nine more disciplines that will do well in the 2012 London Games.
