Haryana trounce hapless Mizoram 12-1

Government Senior Secondary School, Shahabad, Haryana thrashed Government Lallengunga High School, Thenzawl, Mizoram 12-1 in the 17th Nehru Juniors Girls Hockey Tournament at the National Stadium on Sunday. The team from Haryana did not give Mizoram any chance as they fired goals in quick succession. Such was the supremacy on display that as many as eight goals were scored in the first half itself. Haryana Skipper Rani was declared the player of match after her team hit four goals in the second half.

In another match Sri Kritu Rai Inter College from Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh got the better of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh 6-2.

However the match between Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, Rourkela, Orissa and Kiddies Corner School, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh ended in a draw with both team scoring three goals each. Garhwal heroes go down

In the second last qualifiying day of the Durand Cup, Garhwal Heroes went down 3-5 to the Indian Air Force team in penalties, after regular time ended on a goalless draw.

The IAF had dominated great swathes of the game, but Garwhal goalkeeper Yogesh Prasad kept them in the contest with some fantastic saves.

In the end, it was a mistake by Heroes number 15 Lalit Rawat from the spot that saw IAF through.
