Kaushik threatens to sue Hockey India
Embattled former hockey coach MK Kaushik on Monday, decided to take legal opinion on charges of sexual harassment levelled against him. This comes after Hockey India’s recommendations to sports ministry that the allegations made by national player Th Ranjita are backed by credible evidence. Kaushik addressed members of the press on a day when the sports ministry set-up a fresh committee to look into the matter. The Dronacharya awardee said he was ‘deeply hurt’ by the letter sent by HI, a copy of which was also marked to the commissioner of Delhi police.
“I received a copy of the letter today and was hurt to see its contents. Certain points in it like my services are not required are not for HI to recommend to the ministry. It is a clear case of HI manipulation and I raise strong objections to it,” he said.
Kaushik also sent a strongly worded letter to HI president Vidya Stokes calling Narinder Batra (HI secretary general), an incumbent and alleged that he had been plotting to appoint people of his choice as coach of the women’s team. His lawyer- Mandira Mitra- said that filing a defamation suit was being considered.
“It is a little early to decide whether a case will be filed by us. Defamation suit can be filed if the need arises but we want to see what the ministry probe panel has to say on the matter,” she said.
