Indian hockey star Prabhjot Singh has made India and his hometown, Batala, proud by making it to the World Hockey All Star squad, announced by the international hockey federation (FIH) on Friday. In the women’s category, Surinder Kaur too made it to the World Star XI list.

Prabhjot, who was conferred the Arjuna Award this year, has represented India in top tournaments including the Olympic Games and the World Cup.

An elated Prabhjot on Friday said, “This is a big morale-booster. I have been getting my act right in the past few tournaments and I think this is a reward for my good work. I want to take this form ahead in prestigious tournaments like the World Cup and the 2010 Commonwealth Games (both in New Delhi).”

Prabhjot, who returned with the team from Argentina two days back after playing in the Champions Challenge tournament, said, “Overall, it was a good show barring the game against Pakistan. We are learning from our mistakes and will certainly do well in the coming tournaments.”

This is the second time Prabhjot has been included in the All Star squad, with the previous one being in 2007.
