The Indian women’s hockey team will have a new captain for the Champion Challenge Cup to be held in Dublin from June 18 to 26. The current captain, Surinder Kaur, has opted out of the tournament citing family problems. Though Surinder had appeared for the selection trials, she went on a month-long leave after that. “Last month, my father passed away and since then my mother is not keeping well,” said Surinder.

Saba Anjum, one of the senior-most members of the side, is considered favourite for the job. Though Hockey India is yet to announce the team and the captain for the Champion Challenge Cup, sources said Saba would be the new captain.
